If it’s distasteful and it works, it ain’t distasteful. At least, that’s what WWE seem to think about continuously using Roman Reigns’ real-life battle with leukaemia in storylines.
Roman Reigns was forced to relinquish his Universal Championship last month after revealing that the cancer he had successfully fought 11 years ago had returned.
On the same night, Dean Ambrose shockingly turned heel on Seth Rollins, seemingly to capitalise on the stunned crowd, building mountains of heat in the process.
Since then, Dean has consistently brought up Roman’s illness in his promo, even going as far as saying that the leukaemia was karma for everything he did while in the Shield.
Now, as distasteful as all of this so clearly is, apparently that’s not worrying WWE in the slightest, as all reports suggest that there are no plans to stop using the illness in future storylines.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said he fully expects WWE to continue using Reigns’cancer going forward for a very simple reason: Vince McMahon.
According to Dave, there are very few topics that are off limits nowadays, and as long as it furthers the business, he will happily allow his stars to say anything they want.
