Tonight was the go-home edition of NXT. However, not all the focus of the show centered around the matches for this Sunday’s pay-per-view.
2 huge matches were announced for next Wednesday night’s NXT show. The first is Roderick Strong vs. Velveteen Dream.
Last week, Velveteen Dream reemerged to counter the Undisputed Era’s numbers. Tonight, Roddy opened the show by demanding an apology.

That doesn’t seem to be Velveteen Dream’s style. Instead, he pulled a page out of Ravishing Rick Rude’s playbook and hit on Strong’s wife, Marina Shafir.
All this was to set up next week’s match between Strong and Dream. We’ll just have to see if this is a one-off match or building to a bigger feud that could last until Mania.
The second match announcement of the night was a result of the new number 1 contender to the NXT Cruiserweight championship being determined. Angel Garza and Lio Rush faced off on tonight’s show.
Lio Rush defeated Angel Garza to become the number 1 contender. It was then announced the match would take place next week.

Rush will face Jordan Devlin. This will be Devlin’s first title defense.
You have to wonder if plans have changed with the recent call up of Garza and his getting over on the main roster. Garza definitely feels like the bigger star with the most momentum.
Either way, Devlin will be defending his title on post-NXT TakeOver: Portland Show next week.
