2 NXT Stars Referenced On AEW Dynamite

AEW got a little bit cheeky on Dynamite last night, and made some light-hearted references to some major NXT stars on the show.

The first came from Cody, who during a promo was criticising MJF’s execution of the Cross Rhodes last week.

NXT’s Damian Priest also does a variation of the Cross Rhodes as his finish, which prompted Cody to say: “At least they’re botching it on two channels now”.

The other one was slightly more overt, but many people won’t have seen it.

It occurred during the commercial break, meaning those watching on TNT won’t have heard it, but those watching on Fite will have.

The camera panned to Britt Baker, which led commentator Excalibur to exclaim: “That’s Adam Cole’s girlfriend!”.

This was of course in reference to NXT showing Baker on camera and Mauro Ranallo mentioning her during TakeOver: WarGames 2019 after Cole’s match.

Some have made quite a meal of this and criticised AEW for it, but at the end of the day, it just seems like a bit of banter.
