WWE SmackDown Live In Brief: August 14 2018

Here is the pre-Summerslam Smackdown summary…

Samoa Joe read out a letter which he claimed was from AJ Styles’ wife saying she’d lost him to WWE a long time ago, to play mind games with the WWE Champion ahead of their Summerslam bout.

The New Day beat SANitY in a six-man tag when Big E pinned Killian Dain after a Midnight Hour.

Jeff Hardy pinned Shelton Benjamin after a Twist of Fate. Shinsuke Nakamura attacked Jeff afterwards but Hardy laid the US Champ out with a Twist of Fate and a Swanton Bomb. Meanwhile Randy Orton was lurking backstage, watching.

Carmella, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair had a really good face-to-face-to-face promo segment in the ring to build their three-way match for the SmackDown Women’s Title at Summerslam.

Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair beat Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose when Becky made Rose tap to the Dis-Arm-Her. Carmella was on commentary.

An utterly superb series of video packages aired where Daniel Bryan and The Miz talked about their eight-year rivalry, including footage of their first meeting in NXT in 2010, The Miz’s infamous tirade on Talking Smack in 2016, then bringing things right up-to-date ahead of their match at Summerslam this Sunday.

The Miz and Maryse celebrated Miz and Mrs being renewed for a second season with an inset promo.

The Bludgeon Brothers destroyed three jobbers.

Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas pinned Aiden English after a Hammerlock DDT. Afterwards Rusev and Lana came out to confront Almas and Vega.
