Absent AEW Star Expressed ‘Frustration’ To Tony Khan, No Return Plans In Place AEW

A new backstage update has shared details on an absent AEW star, who reportedly expressed “frustration” directly to Tony Khan.

It has been almost a year since AEW star Danhausen last competed on the company’s programming, with his last appearance coming on the February 14 episode of ROH TV.

Despite being off AEW TV Danhausen has been competing regularly on the independent scene throughout 2024, leaving many questioning what his current status is within the company.

Fightful Select have now gained many new details regarding Danhausen’s absence, and whether the company have any plans to bring the 34-year-old back into the fold.

According to the report Danhausen and AEW have had very little contact whatsoever in the last six months, aside from routine approval to compete on independent dates, as is protocol for signed talents.

Danhausen was originally set to return to TV a year ago following an injury absence, however these plans were reportedly changed, leading to the AEW star “expressing frustration directly to Tony Khan”.

Pitches had been made to bring Danhausen back to TV earlier this year, with former AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson being a “big proponent” of these plans, however, nothing would come of them despite Danhuasen being “willing” to return.

The belief within AEW is that Danhausen was opting to prioritise indie bookings rather than working on Collision on Saturdays.

Danhausen had indicated to AEW that family reasons had caused his availability to undergo changes as the year went on, however, AEW had seen him work indie dates before that period, leading them to believe he didn’t want to work Collision tapings.

The report notes that Danhausen’s AEW contract runs into the Summer of 2025, with no current creative plans being drawn up for his return.

We will provide further updates on Danhasuen’s status as/when they become available.
