UPDATE: New details on Ace Steel’s whereabouts during Collision have emerged at this link.
Fans might be wondering with the return of CM Punk to AEW, was Ace Steel backstage at AEW Collision in Chicago tonight?
For tonight’s debut edition of AEW Collision, CM Punk not only kicked off the show with a fiery promo but also main evented the night in a big match.
CM Punk teamed with FTR against Bullet Club Gold (Juice Robinson and Jay White) and Samoa Joe in the main event of the night.
But was Ace Steel in the building for the triumphant return?
According to a new report from Fightful Select, there is a concise answer: No.
While Ace Steel is in Chicago, he was not in attendance at Collision, nor will he be at any AEW shows “as of now” per the report, despite being signed to the company and helping with Punk’s storylines.
Steel was reportedly rehired by the company months ago (after being fired following his involvement in the incident after All Out), but it was decided he’d be working remotely, rather than being backstage at shows in person.
That decision was apparently miscommunicated and it became an issue leading to Punk being removed from all advertising for the initial announcement of Collision, but things were evidently sorted out shortly after.
Elsewhere in tonight’s debut episode of AEW Collision, the night kicked off with a big title change with a fascinating post-match celebration.
