Adam Cole Explains How AEW All Out Debut Was Kept Secret Backstage

Adam Cole has discussed more backstage details behind his surprise AEW debut on the September 5 All Out show.

Before All Out, it was reported that AEW talent weren’t aware of any plans for Adam Cole to join the promotion, let alone appear during the pay-per-view. Despite this, Cole ultimately did debut during the show, aligning himself with The Elite following the main-event.

Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Cole revealed that a number of precautions were taken to ensure that his AEW appearance would be a surprise. Explaining that he didn’t even take a flight to Chicago ahead of the show, Cole said:

“I didn’t even fly into Chicago, I flew into a different city the day before. I didn’t even stay in the same hotel as Bryan (Danielson). We showed up to the building while the show was going on, and we waited outside in a trailer.

“The locker room didn’t even know until the absolute last moment. It was the most secretive debut I’ve ever been involved in, and Tony Khan took every measure to make this as big of a surprise as possible.”

It was previously revealed that Cole only officially signed with AEW on the day of All Out, and those involved with the show’s closing angle discussed plans for the segment around the time CM Punk was wrestling Darby Allin on the pay-per-view.

Cole makes his in-ring debut for AEW on tonight’s episode of Dynamite against Frankie Kazarian.
