Adam Cole Is ‘Hoping & Praying’ For Samoa Joe NXT Match

Adam Cole has revealed that he is hopeful that he’ll have the opportunity to face Samoa Joe on NXT in the future.

Samoa Joe recently admitted that he’s “absolutely” working towards an in-ring return. Former NXT Champion Adam Cole is more than willing to wrestle Joe in the Samoan Submission Machine’s first match back.

Speaking with Alex McCarthy of TalkSPORT, Cole cited Joe as one of his wrestling inspirations. Pointing out that they had never crossed paths before WWE, Cole said:

“It would be incredible. Samoa Joe was one of the guys responsible for me actually discovering independent wrestling. Him, along with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan – Bryan Danielson at the time – I remember seeing those guys and being like ‘Oh my god, I have to watch all of their matches!’

“And I have never, in my 13 year career, wrestled Samoa Joe. We just never crossed paths. And I know things are very different now where we are unsure if Joe will ever actually get back in the ring, but you can guarantee if that day does happen, I will be hoping and praying as much as the NXT fanbase is that we have an Adam Cole and Samoa Joe match.

“Aside from the fact that I do respect him so much, I’m sick of him punking me out! (Laughs). I gotta change this, immediately.”

Joe returned to NXT in June as General Manager William Regal’s enforcer. On his first night back, Joe choked out Cole to end a backstage brawl.

On the most June 29 episode of NXT, Kyle O’Reilly caught Cole in a leg bar. Instead of breaking up the action, Joe slowly walked away from the ring before security guards separated the two competitors.

Joe previously noted that he’d be interested in a match with Cole. You can read about Joe’s other dream NXT opponents here.
