Adam Cole Recalls Key Lesson He Learnt From Shawn Michaels In NXT

Adam Cole has recalled a key in-ring lesson he was taught by WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels during his time in NXT.

While Cole was training at the WWE Performance Center, he formed a close bond with The Heartbreak Kid.

Speaking on AEW Unrestricted, Cole explained that Michaels helped him improve his cadence in the ring, focusing on knowing when to speed up and slow down during his matches.

Also praising William Regal and Terry Taylor for their contributions to the Performance Center, Cole said:

“Across the board, when you think about the knowledge all these guys have, and their willingness to give up that knowledge, its priceless in a lot of ways. Whether it be (William) Regal, Terry Taylor or Shawn Michaels, all of them are so passionate about wrestling and so willing to talk about it and give that knowledge up.

“My relationship specifically with Shawn, to this day, still exists. He was someone who helped me tremendously when he didn’t have to. I look at Shawn Michaels to this day as the greatest pro-wrestler of all time. He’s a guy I idolise to this day, and he was so helpful in getting me to think outside the box, about things I didn’t normally think about.

“One of the things he really helped me with was cadence within matches, like deciding when to speed up and when to slow down, and how to take the crowd on as much of a roller coaster ride as possible. It was something before that I never really thought of, I just did my match, did my moves. As far as the speed at which you (wrestle the match), that was something I didn’t really obsess about.

“Shawn made me focus on that more and more, and I noticed a definite difference and audible change from the audience when I focused on that stuff. I love him to death, and I love Terry and I love Regal. When I say I had a wonderful time there, that’s an understatement.”
