Adam Cole Scrapped AEW Plans Before Hiatus Revealed AEW

Following Adam Cole’s successful in-ring return on this week’s AEW Dynamite, it’s almost hard to remember exactly what the AEW landscape was like way back in June 2022.

Among the CM Punk injury and MJF walkout that were dominating the headlines at the time there was another ongoing storyline between the former Undisputed-Era of Cole, Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly and their union with The Elite of The Young Bucks.

The Undisputed Elite as they were known, were seemingly set for a collision with the final on-screen interaction between the group seeing Cole, Fish and O’Reilly turn on The Bucks.

Unfortunately however, due to Cole and O’Reilly sustaining injuries as well as Fish’s exit from the company, the angle all but died before it truly began.

Speaking to Comicbook.com Cole would reveal that yes, those plans have been scrapped (for now), saying:

“I think so (those Undisputed Elite vs. The Elite plans have been scrapped). It’s one of those situations where, obviously, wrestling is dangerous and things change all the time. There may have been a couple of ideas as far as where we were going months and months ago.

We thought, okay, this recovery process is going to be a little bit quicker. But as time went on and we learned how serious this injury was, obviously things had to pivot and change as well.

That’s kind of the way wrestling is where things change often and you just kind of have to roll with the punches.

We definitely had at least a couple of ideas back then but things have changed now. But it doesn’t mean that we won’t play into that down the line.”

It’s worth noting that O’Reilly is still under AEW contract, with only Fish no longer with AEW, so perhaps it’s an idea AEW could revisit in the future.
