Earlier this week it was announced that Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz would be taking place at SummerSlam, which seemed odd given what Ziggler has been doing on WWE programming recently.
Ziggler has spent the last few weeks referencing Bill Goldberg and both attacking and mocking Shawn Michaels, leading to speculation that one of those would be his SummerSlam opponent.
Prior to the Ziggler vs. Miz match getting announce, Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer had said that the match was not in the works for the pay-per-view.
Meltzer has reinforced that via Twitter, responding to a fan who pointed out that Miz vs. Ziggler had been announced by referring to it as “a red herring”.
It's a red herring. https://t.co/JEKuXYG4yG

So based on that, Ziggler – who is scheduled to have a match at SummerSlam – will not be wrestling the Miz and will have a different opponent.
Will it be Shawn Michaels? Bill Goldberg? Or someone completely different that nobody is expecting? No doubt we will find out next week.
