Update On AEW’s Relationship With Other Promotions After Questions Raised AEW

CMLL’s Mistico, formerly the original Sin Cara in WWE, faces NJPW’s Rocky Romero on next week’s episode of AEW Rampage.

The announcement for the October 20 episode was enough to get Bryan Danielson hinting at his hopes of a dream match with another CMLL star, Blue Panther.

With AEW having a working relationship with AAA, Dave Meltzer has addressed the impact of using CMLL stars on AEW shows.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer stated:

Regarding how booking Mistico affects the relationship with AAA, from an AEW side it does not.

They are working with the impression they can book talent from both groups as long as the talent isn’t in the ring together.

AAA doesn’t care in the sense them using CMLL talent doesn’t affect their relationship with AAA and CMLL’s lone issue would only be not having them in the same matches and through New Japan, any co-promotion with AEW and New Japan has never allowed Mexican wrestlers who last worked with AAA on the shows.

In September 2023, AEW’s Komander became the new AAA Cruiserweight Champion, along with being one half of the AAA Tag Team Champions alongside Arez.

AAA and AEW have long had a working relationship, with the AAA Mega Championship being defended numerous times on AEW television.

AEW’s QT Marshall is also the reigning Latin American Champion in AAA.

It was recently reported that MLW, CMLL and NJPW had signed a strategic partnership agreement.
