Current Relationship Between AEW & AAA Revealed

Current Relationship Between AEW & AAA Revealed AEW/AAA

On December 28, two AEW stars were stripped of their mixed tag team championship and a top AEW tag team lost its championship.

The aftermath of the AAA Noche de Campeones event saw Dragon Lee confirm that he’s heading to WWE after defeating FTR for the AAA Tag Team Championship with Dralistico.

Elsewhere on the show, Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo would be stripped of their AAA Mixed Tag Team Championships.

Dave Meltzer, in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), has explained AAA’s mindset behind the decisions, reporting:

“Right now the plan is that unless it’s Kenny Omega, who they still want as their Mega champion because of his work and name value, if they can get dates on him, they don’t want titles on AEW wrestlers because of the difficulty in confirming dates on them.”

There was, accordingly to Meltzer, no heat between AAA and FTR, however, as he went on to explain:

“That said, FTR was praised by those at AAA, who said that if they could get dates on them they do want them back, noting that Dax Harwood was hurting but they still got great heat.

“The decision to go with Lee & Dralistico even though Lee was leaving was because they had been chasing the belts for a year, plus they wanted to elevate Dralistico.”

Guevara and Melo were stripped of the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship without being on the show.

Flammer & Abismo Negro Jr would go on to become the new champions.

They became new champions after defeating the teams of Lady Shani & Octagon Jr and Komander & Sexy Star II.
