AEW Star Addresses His Comments About ‘Mentally Exhausting’ AEW Run AEW

AEW star Konosuke Takeshita has addressed previous comments he made about not enjoying wrestling in America.

The Japanese star made a name for himself wrestling for DDT-Pro for 10 years ahead of his AEW debut in 2021.

He went on to officially sign with AEW in November 2022, and has since established himself as one of the most athletic names on the roster.

Takeshita recently spoke with DDT Pro Wrestling about his mindset when wrestling in Japan vs competing in America. His comments caused some concern within his fanbase, with Takeshita admitting:

“Everyone felt like they’re having fun Wrestling here (in Japan). I didn’t had any fun wrestling ever since I got to America. The effort was bearing fruit, but I didn’t feel the enjoyment.

“It was the most mentally exhausting period in all 12 years of my wrestling career. However when I stopped having fun, my matches were better received and I gained more recognition. And it’s not proportional.

“Since arriving in America, if you were to ask me what I’ve found enjoyable, there’s been nothing. In my heart, i’ve already thrown away the joys of wrestling.”

Takeshita has now taken to Twitter to note that he feels this way as he’s focusing on working hard rather than having fun in the ring.

Explaining his comments, he tweeted:

I don’t want you to misunderstand this is not necessarily a bad thing. In other words, taking on a challenge is hard work. It’s like a cutting phase for bodybuilders.

I understand that time is necessary to shine at the top. I make sure my choice had not been wrong. I’m The Alpha.

Takeshita is slated to wrestle Jon Moxley in a NJPW IWGP World Heavyweight Title Eliminator match at AEW Double or Nothing.
