AEW All In Victory Originally Planned Earlier in The Year AEW

A surprising victory at last night’s AEW All In event at Wembley Stadium was reportedly planned ‘earlier in the year’.

AEW held it’s third ever Casino Gauntlet match at last night’s AEW All In pay-per-view event, when a number of top stars faced off for a future shot at the AEW World Championship.

From the debut of Ricochet to the shocking return of Nigel McGuinness, the match made a lot of headlines, but the result also came as a major surprise to a lot of people.

Christian Cage, who had lost his AEW Trios Championship earlier in the night, entered the match, ending up scoring the victory following an assist from Killswitch.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Christian was originally slated to win an earlier Casino Gauntlet match that was won by Will Ospreay.

He said:

“The (Casino Gauntlet match) which Will Ospreay won, Christian was supposed to win that one.”

Ospreay had been victorious in the two prior Gauntlet matches held on AEW Dynamite, the first on April 24 earning him a shot at the International Championship of Roderick Strong at Double or Nothing.

The second gauntlet won by Ospreay was on the May 29 episode of Dynamite, which earned him a match with Swerve Strickland at Forbidden Door for the AEW World Championship, a match he personally requested.
