This past weekend saw three incredible displays of professional wrestling, with two matches in particular standing out above the rest.
Tyler Bate vs. WALTER at NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff is being lauded as one of the greatest matches ever seen under the WWE umbrella, and has now been given a 5.25 star rating in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, making it the second highest rated match of all time in WWE, just below Johnny Gargano vs Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver: New York.
The other match given 5.25 stars was the tag ladder match between the Lucha Bros and the Young Bucks at AEW All Out. Some have called it unnecessarily dangerous, but there is no doubt that the two teams put on an insane show for everyone watching.
NJPW Royal Quest’s main event of Kazuchika Okada vs. Minoru Suzuki was awarded 4.5 stars, but many in attendance will be wondering why it was not also given a 5 star rating.
Meltzer very rarely awards WWE matches much more than 4 stars, so for Bate and WALTER to achieve 5.25 is pretty much unheard of.
It’s fair to say that the standard of pro-wrestling is at an all-time high, and it’s a pretty amazing time to be a fan.
