During last night’s episode of Dynamite on TNT, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) announced a new tournament for its women’s division.
Much like the one we saw for the men at the end of last year, which Kenny Omega won, the tournament winner will earn a shot at the AEW Women’s World Title.
No competitors have been announced as of yet, but the promotion posted a bracket on Twitter indicating there will be 16 participants, one half of which will be made of American talent, and one half of which will be made up of Japanese talent.
There was no date for the tournament announced either, just that it’s “coming soon”.
Hikaru Shida is the current AEW Women’s World Champion, and has held the title for 243 days as of this writing.
She won it from Nyla Rose at Double Or Nothing last May, and has since defended against Penelope Ford, Thunder Rosa, Big Swole, Nyla Rose, Anna Jay, and most recently, Abadon.
