AEW Announces Number One Contenders Match For Dynamite This Week

This weekend at AEW Double or Nothing, Cody defeated Lance Archer to capture the TNT Championship. Many people, myself included, were surprised at the result, with it being believed that Lance was going to be booked to go over.

It seems as if Cody won’t be wasting much time celebrating his big pay-per-view win, as AEW has announced that the first challenger for his championship will be determined this week on the post-Double or Nothing episode of Dynamite.

AEW has announced that this week’s Dynamite will feature a battle royale, with the winner earning the right to be Cody’s first TNT Championship challenger. It has also been speculated that the finalised belt design will be unveiled on Wednesday’s show, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Also confirmed for Wednesday’s show is an appearance from boxing legend Mike Tyson. Mike was in attendance for AEW Double or Nothing on Saturday night, presenting Cody with the title belt following his victory over Archer.

We already know the number one contender for the AEW World Championship, as Tony Khan confirmed that new AEW star Brian Cage will challenge Jon Moxley for the title at Fyter Fest, a show that was originally slated to take place in London, as Khan revealed to Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT.

Speaking of Cody and Archer, Rhodes revealed to the media after the show that he initially had reservations about AEW signing Lance, but now regards him as one of the top three people that he’s had the pleasure of sharing the ring with.
