AEW Backstage Reaction To Brian Kendrick Controversy

AEW Backstage Reaction To Brian Kendrick Controversy

The backstage reaction within AEW to the Brian Kendrick controversy, and cancellation of his Dynamite appearance, have been revealed.

Following reports that Kendrick had officially left WWE, earlier this week, AEW announced that the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion would face Jon Moxley on Wednesday’s edition of Dynamite. AEW President Tony Khan later confirmed that Kendrick’s debut appearance had been pulled from the show, due to old comments Kendrick had previously made.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful recently took part in a Fightful Select Q&A (subscription required), in which he stated that a Turner network executive was not happy after the controversy resurfaced. Sapp noted that he is unsure whether this sentiment was relayed to AEW before the company chose to pull Kendrick from the show.

Reportedly told that the situation made Wednesday a long day, Sapp said:

“There were a couple of people that were like, ‘Why wasn’t this known about?’. There was one that I talked to that said, ‘I hate that this happened from 10-year old stuff’, like making excuses for Kendrick.

“There were others that felt like if this would have went on, then Turner would have taken exception to it. I had heard that a Turner executive was not happy with it. I don’t know if that was relayed to AEW accordingly, but I know that. I was told that it was a long day.”
