Blake Monroe Shares Honest Thoughts On WWE Name Change

Former AEW star Blake Monroe, fka Mariah May, has shared her honest thoughts on her WWE name change.

Prior to joining WWE in June of this year, the star now known as Blake Monroe wrestled as Mariah May.

She wouldn’t get her new name until a week after her debut, and continues to be Blake Monroe in NXT to this day.

During a recent appearance on Busted Open, Monroe shared her thoughts on getting a new name and why it means so much to her.

Reflecting on her past work, which saw “Mariah May” rise from independent name to an AEW star, Monroe said:

“If you’re familiar with my prior name, I feel like it was the end to a story, and I cherish that, and I feel like it’s kind of cool that she died almost, like that’s done.

“Also – I can’t turn back time so I never really think about it – but Mariah is my real name, and I wish I never used it in wrestling.”

She would then share her thoughts on what WWE is building with her using her new name, stating:

“And I feel like with WWE it’s like ‘Hey, we’re going to make this new thing, and we’re going to make it a mega star.’ I feel like week by week we’re doing that, and I love it.”

Having left AEW after her contract expired, Monroe also addressed her thinking behind signing with WWE.

With both Mariah May and Blake Monroe having been heel characters in AEW and WWE respectively, the NXT star has also revealed she hopes to be a face in the future.
