An injured AEW star who last competed in February has revealed a setback in their plans for an in-ring return.
Buddy Matthews was last seen in the ring at AEW Grand Slam Australia in February in a losing effort against Kazuchika Okada for the Continental Championship.
Having previously revealed that he had suffered a partial ligament tear and cartilage damage, Matthews had stated he didn’t suffer any broken bones and had been able to walk again.
During a recent Instagram Live, the AEW star provided an update on his ankle, revealing the severity of his injury, saying:
“The ankle is not recovering as well as I thought it would be. There’s no mobility to it, if I can’t have mobility, I can’t move properly.”
He would go on to explain the issue that he is facing, highlighting his return hopes, stating:
“Once it hits three months without healing, it becomes chronic.
“I thought I’d be back in the ring in April.”
Matthews was able to complete his match against the AEW Continental Champion, going on to be seen in a walking boot almost two weeks after Grand Slam Australia.
WrestleTalk wishes Buddy Matthews well as he navigates this setback in his recovery.
