The AEW fans were introduced to former ROH World Champion Rush in a pre-taped video back at Double or Nothing, when Andrade El Idolo introduced him to the roster.
Rush made his first AEW television appearance on the June 22 episode of Rampage. where he helped Andrade defeat Rey Fenix, before the pair donned shirts of their faction ‘La Facción Ingobernable’.
The segment was clearly designed to set up a match, pitting Andrade and Rush against the Lucha Brothers, which is still yet to happen, though it has in fact been planned.
Dave Meltzer noted in the newest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Tony Khan has been hoping to do the match ever since that Rampage episode, but it has been cancelled multiple times due to injury.
He wrote:
As noted here, for several weeks, Tony Khan has wanted to make Andrade & Rush vs. Penta & Rey Fenix. Penta vs. Rush in a singles match and this week’s Penta & Fenix vs. Private Party match were because Andrade wasn’t cleared to wrestle yet
Andrade’s injury is an inflamation in his ankle, which likely won’t keep him out of action for long, as he is scheduled to team with Ric Flair in his last match next Sunday.
