A current AEW champion has sent out a challenge to New Japan Pro Wrestling icon Hiroshi Tanahashi ahead of his final match in America.
NJPW president and ace Hiroshi Tanahashi is set to retire from the ring next year, with his last match taking place at next year’s Wrestle Kingdom event in the Tokyo Dome on January 4, 2026.
Ahead of his retirement, it was announced that Tanahashi was set to compete in his last ever match in the United States at the upcoming Windy City Riot show on April 11, and his opponent for the show has seemingly now been revealed.
At today’s NJPW Battle in the Valley, AEW International and NEVER Openweight Champion Konosuke Takeshita defeated Kushida, before taking the microphone after the match.
Takeshita challenged Tanahashi to a match at Windy City Riot, seemingly confirming a match between the two for the show.
Following his victories at Wrestle Kingdom and Wrestle Dynasty, Takeshita announced that he had signed a contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling, with him now representing AEW, NJPW and DDT.
