ROH Women’s Champion Athena has reacted to a top AEW star expressing interest in a champion vs champion match against her.

Athena has now made ROH history, becoming the longest reigning champion in the history of the brand. With the AEW star holding the ROH Women’s Title for 646 days and counting, there has been a lot of speculation about who will finally dethrone the champion.

A future challenger for Athena has potentially been revealed, with NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion and AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone noting that she wants to face the ROH Women’s titleholder.

Athena re-shared a video on Twitter of Mone naming her as a star from ROH who she wants to face, with the CEO noting:

The one who has the belt, Athena, that’s someone I’d like to face really, really soon. That’d be good. 

Athena responded to this post by asking for the fans’ opinions, writing:

The former WWE star won the ROH Women’s Championship at the December 10, 2022 Final Battle pay-per-view, defeating Mercedes Martinez to claim the gold.
