An AEW star has teased unifying two championships ahead of challenging for gold at this weekend’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view.
Sammy Guevara has the chance to become a double champion at the May 25 special, with Guevara set to team with Dustin Rhodes to challenge for the Hurt Syndicate’s AEW Tag Team Championship.
With Guevara already holding the ROH Tag Team Championship with Rhodes, he has now hinted that they could unify the ROH and AEW gold following a victory at Double or Nothing.
Speaking with Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Guevara teased the possibility of a title unification and making a new belt.
Discussing his and Rhodes’ goal to elevate the ROH Tag Team Championship, he said:
“Dustin and I made it our goal to make the ROH Tag Titles mean more than gold. We’ve defended them in the Tokyo Dome, in Australia, and all over the world.
“Now we’re getting the chance to defend that honor on an AEW pay-per-view. Maybe we walk out with both sets of belts. Maybe we unify them. Maybe we make a new belt. Either way, we’re ready.”
If the challengers win at Double or Nothing, Dustin Rhodes will become a triple champion, as he also holds the ROH Six Man Tag Team Championship alongside Marshall and Ross Von Erich.
