With the launch of AEW Collision set to take place next month, the return of CM Punk to AEW is set to also take place.

It is being reported that Punk will return to be the focal point of the Collision brand, with the Elite set to remain on Dynamite.

Ahead of his return, Punk had a meeting with Chris Jericho and Tony Khan, with Jericho reportedly being pitched as the return opponent for Punk.

However, Fightful Select reported yesterday that Punk had pitched for another big name return match, and we now know the identity of that man.

Per Fightful Select (subscription required), Punk has been pitching to work with Samoa Joe for ‘the better part of a month’, sources close to Punk have indicated.

Joe has not wrestled on AEW television since he dropped the TNT Championship to Wardlow at Revolution, but he is a regular on Ring of Honor TV as it’s current Television Champion.

Fightful did not confirm whether the pitch was made for a one-off match or an extended program, nor whether the match is actually happening, as AEW sources won’t discuss anything related to Collision in general, much less the matches planned.

Punk and Joe had a legendary feud in Ring of Honor, with their last match against each other taking place in 2005.

Fightful previously reported that the returns of Miro and Thunder Rosa were directly tied to the debut of Collision, as is Tony Khan’s upcoming announcement next week.
