An AEW star who’s been absent from TV says he believes someone in the company has issues with him due to comments he made in an interview.
Despite being a two-time TNT Champion and one half of the first ever AEW World Tag Team Champions, Scorpio Sky hasn’t had a match for AEW since September 2023.
He suffered an injury that ruled him out of action, but videos started airing to hype up his return in May 2024.
However, Sky once again disappeared from that point onwards and never made an in-ring comeback.
Today, Sky re-launched his podcast, titled Creating Character, and addressed his absence, saying he believes someone in AEW took issue with something he said during an interview with Chris Van Vliet, which released in July 2024.
He said:
“To be honest with you, I didn’t lie when I was on the (Chris Van Vliet) show, but I definitely went out of my way to not make the company look bad. I really obviously wanted to preserve a relationship that has been built over a number of years and I didn’t want to say anything that would poison that relationship.
“Come to find out, someone there, still, maybe has a few issues with some of the things I may have said. Now I’m like, ‘Screw it, I’m going to say whatever the hell I want now.’
“It’s something that has been on my mind, I don’t think about it too much, but sometimes I do wonder, ‘What is the perspective? Do people think I’m not profiled because I suck, I don’t have it anymore, I’m hurt, do they they think there is bad blood?’
“The reality is I don’t know what it is. I don’t know if there is bad blood or not. I know I’m healthy and I’ve been healthy for a long time and I’ve been wanting to compete.
“It’s just one of those things where, what can you do? You only have so much say. You have this much say (holds fingers close together). You do what you can.”
We’ll keep you posted if any further updates emerge on Sky’s status. It was announced in September 2021 that he’d signed a five-year deal to stay with AEW at that point, so that would mean his deal is up in September 2026.
