AEW is reportedly considering a new video game partner following the release of AEW Fight Forever last year.
AEW’s first console video game ‘Fight Forever’ was officially released on June 28, 2023 after initially being announced in November 2020.
Prior to the game’s release, a number of issues with development between the company and publishers Yukes, and those issues may have led to AEW looking for a new partner for any future projects.
In a new report from Insider Gaming, multiple sources have noted that the decision makers at AEW are ‘strongly considering’ finding a new development partner moving forward following a number of issues surrounding Fight Forever’s development.
One source noted that “AEW knows that things didn’t go the way they expected. The game was over-budget and it under delivered when it came out. It has AEW strongly considering moving to a new developer for their games.”
Following the release of Fight Forever, AEW is now reportedly trying to figure out where to go next with their games. Their original contract with Yuke’s contained one year of post launch DLC updates, which came as four season passes adding wrestlers, moves, game modes and venues to the game.
The last DLC pack was released in July, with Jay White being added to the roster, and there reportedly have been talks of adding recently signed wrestlers such as Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada and Mercedes Mone to the roster, but it is not known where exactly those talks stand right now between AEW and Yuke’s.
The sources who spoke anonymously said that the primary focus is around the future of the game as a whole, saying:
“Everything is on the table. There were some positives with the Yuke’s relationship, and some feel that with a foundation in place, another game could make things better rather than giving up after one attempt. But you can’t argue that there are concerns with how things went in the final year of the game’s development.”
We will provide any updates on the future of AEWW games as they become available.
