Rey Fenix Provides AEW Contract Status Update AEW

Rey Fenix has provided an update on his AEW contract status, revealing that he is still waiting for “clarification” on his situation within the company.

While his brother and tag team partner Penta is currently flourishing as a solo act in WWE, Rey Fenix remains under AEW contract but has not been used on TV since the July 20, 2024 edition of AEW Collision.

In a new interview with Lalo Elizarrarás, Rey Fenix addressed his ongoing absence from AEW, detailing what he’s been focused on throughout his period of inactivity.

Fenix said:

“Mainly, my life has always been about wrestling and it’s not like I stopped training. On the contrary, I have more time to train. I have more time to perfect my skills. I have more time to create new things, to work on my injuries, to work on my body, and mainly, to work on my head.

“I’m doing personal projects, like buying my house and a future for my children, but I could have had the option of continuing to work every weekend, but nobody stays in a place where they are not wanted. It’s very difficult to wear the shirt of one relationship when you need the other party to back you up, to support you, or simply not ask for anything exaggerated that you deserve as an athlete and as part of the relationship.

Addressing his contract status specifically, Fenix said:

“Yes, basically I’m still under contract with an additional extension. I am waiting to be used, to be called to work, or to have my situation clarified a little more.”

It was widely reported last Summer that Fenix and Penta were WWE bound once their AEW contracts had expired, with both deals originally set to expire late in the year.

While Penta would officially depart in December and debut for WWE one month later, Fenix instead saw injury time added to his deal, with reports suggesting the extended period could be close to a year.

Penta recently commented on debuting in the company as a singles star in rather than alongside Fenix – click here for full details.
