An AEW star has opened up about their in-ring gimmick that allows them to pay tribute to legendary wrestlers of years past.
Daniel Garcia is a wrestler with a number of finishing moves, some of which clearly pays direct tribute to performers of the past, particularly Bret Hart and The Rock.
Speaking on Hey! EW, Garcia revealed his reason for using the Rock Bottom, Garcia told RJ City:
“The greatest professional wrestling move of all time.
“It feels very powerful when I do it.”
He would also say that he’s trying to convince Excalibur to call the move “the Rock Bottom” on commentary, but doubts that will happen.
Garcia then went on to explain his style when it comes to adopting finishing moves, revealing:
“I’m a 90s tribute gimmick.”
He would also suggest that he’s not going to limit his finishing moves, which also includes Bret Hart’s Sharpshooter, going on to say:
“You know how in a video game you could pick a finisher at the beginning of the match?
“All your moves can be finishers. That’s my thing.”
With Garcia being a member of the Jericho Appreciation Society, there’s no doubt plenty of opportunity for Garcia to expand his repertoire in homage to the faction’s leader.
The Jericho Appreciation Society has a focus on “sports entertainment”, which will hopefully give Garcia more opportunity to show off his tributes to past heroes.
