Darby Allin has replaced the injured Eddie Kingston in Team AEW, as revealed on last night’s Dynamite, despite his own health issues.
Kingston suffered an injury in the Last Man Standing match against Gabe Kidd on May 11 at NJPW Resurgence.
Allin was revealed as his replacement for the Anarchy in the Arena match at AEW Double or Nothing on the May 15 episode of Dynamite.
On the March 13 episode of AEW Dynamite, Allin suffered a broken foot that would see him have to abandon his Mount Everest expedition plans.
April 19 would see Allin reveal that he had also suffered a broken nose during his time away from in-ring action.
Later in the month, Allin would reveal that he suffered the broken nose after getting hit by a bus.
With his return setting in motion the match for the May 26 AEW Double or Nothing, Allin spoke about his status in comments after last night’s Dynamite (as can be seen below this story), saying:
“What a f**king crazy few months. Holy s**t, I thought the worst happened when I broke my foot. Then I was in New York and got hit by a f**king bus.
“As you can see, I’m not 100%. I still have a little bit of a limp, I got a nose brace on. But f**k, I am going to Anarchy in the Arena because I want to defend AEW’s honor.
“Like I said, I’m not 100%. Jesus, when [Dax Harwood] just did that suplex, I was sitting criss-cross applesauce, and a f**king beam hit me in the head. I thought I got knocked out.
“I was like, ‘There goes my return.’ I’m not gonna keep you here for long because there’s some more bad-ass action to come.
“I gotta go to the hospital or something. I’ll talk to you guys later.”
While Allin may not be undertaking his Mount Everest journey soon, he has recently revealed it’ll happen “next year“.
