AEW Dark Star Reveals He Is Trying To Get MLW Release

Last month, Brian Pillman Jr. made his AEW Dark debut, losing in a singles match to Shawn Spears. Since then, Pillman has gone on to wrestle two more matches for AEW, failing to win any of them.

On next week’s show, Pillman Jr. will team with Griff Garrison as the pair take on the young AEW team, Private Party. This comes after Pillman Jr and Garrison were defeated by FTR on last week’s show.

There has been some confusion about Pillman’s status with MLW. It was originally believed that his MLW contract, which he signed before AEW was even a thing, did not prohibit him from wrestling for Tony Khan’s promotion.

However, it has been rumoured that Pillman may actually have been granted his release from MLW, freeing him to seek work outside of the promotion, even with AEW.

In a recent interview with WrestlingInc, Pillman seemed to confirm that while he is still under contract with MLW right now, he is trying to work something out that would see him granted his release:

“OVW has never been restricted to me and neither has AEW. I haven’t heard from MLW in a while – I used to talk to them all the time but they don’t answer my phone. I’m sure they’re cool and there’s no hard feelings. I guess everything’s that been said has been said and they told me I’m free to chase opportunities outside. I think my contract restricts WWE and NXT and that’s it. They know that I know what I’m not allowed to do and sooner or later I’m sure we’ll try to come to an agreement where MLW can release me.”

Speaking of Brian Pillman Jr, make sure you check our interview with him from last month, where he spoke about the influences of Cody Rhodes and Chris Jericho on his career, wanting to work with AEW and more.
