AEW: Dynamite has pretty consistently (apart from a few blips) defeated NXT in the overall Wednesday Night War ratings. They also almost always defeat the black and gold brand in the all-important 18-49 demographic.
However, this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT did something that no other episode has done, defeating both Raw from a few days prior and SmackDown from the previous week in the key demographic.
Taking to Twitter, Dave Meltzer noted that for the first time ever, AEW won the 18-49 demographic overall, beating the 07/20 episode of Raw and 07/17 episode of SmackDown in the 18-34 women demographic.
“This is the first week in history where AEW has won a key (as in 18-49) demo overall, beating both Raw & SD in the same week in women 18-34, and that’s a show with competition vs. two shows with long histories and no wrestling competition.”
As Meltzer notes, this is pretty impressive given the fact that AEW has only been running TV for less than a year and has head-to-head competition in the form of NXT.
For comparison, Raw and SmackDown have been on TV for several years and have no wrestling competition to compete for viewers with.
