The Elite made their return to AEW television for the first time since All Out at Full Gear.
The Elite became the inaugural AEW Trios Champions at All Out, but were stripped of the titles following the post-show media scrum.
The media scrum led to a backstage altercation between the Elite, CM Punk and Ace Steel, which led to all parties involved being suspended, and the Trios and AEW World Championships being vacated.
The AEW fans made the decision as to which side they were on during the Elite’s return match, with the crowd in Newark loudly chanting ‘F**k CM Punk!’.
Tonight’s show took place in Chicago, a city all too familiar with Punk, so fans wondered if the crowd would also side with the Elite, or choose to side with Punk.
Not even a minute into the show, we had our answer.
The pyro for Dynamite had not even finished before we were greeted with loud ‘CM Punk!’ chants.
The Elite are set to face off with Death Triangle on tonight’s show in Chicago in the second match of their best of seven series.
