AEW: Dynamite Live Results – March 24, 2021

Welcome to WrestleTalk’s live coverage of AEW: Dynamite. We’re hitting the long stretch between AEW pay-per-views. Sometimes, this is when you’d expect AEW to hit a lull, but often it’s when they do their best work. Tonight’s show should be another solid episode.

Here’s the advertised card for tonight:

  • John Silver vs. Darby Allin
  • FTR and Shawn Spears vs. The Varsity Blondes and Dante Martin
  • Kenny Omega vs. Matt Sydal – If Sydal wins, he gets a future title shot
  • Nyla Rose vs. Tay Conti
  • The Young Bucks and Brandon Cutler vs. The Lucha Brothers and Laredo Kid
  • Cezar Bononi vs. Hangman Page
  • Britt Baker interview

9:40 – The TNT Title:

Before the main event, we get a nice little promo from Scorpio Sky. He says this isn’t a new side of him. It’s just one we haven’t seen yet. I think that means it’s new, but whatever. It was good delivery and he’s taking on Matt Sydal on Elevation next week.

Up next, it’s going to be a battle for the TNT Championship.

Darby pays his respect to Brodie prior to the match. This match is a bit odd on paper. Both guys are underdogs. Both usually get beat up a lot and then fire up. So, who will carry the match?

It’s Silver. Silver is wrestling like a big guy. He’s tossing Allin all over the ring.

About halfway through the match, Sting comes down to the ring to offset The Dark Order. Silver gets Allin on his knees and sets up for the big kicks. He just wallops him over and over. It just fires up Allin.

Allin begs for more. This is in danger of hitting the television time remaining.  Darby hits a springboard Coffin Drop. He can’t capitalize. Silver hits a huge pump kick. Darby climbs to the top and it looks like he’s going to hit a Coffin Drop. Instead of diving into the ring, he dives back first onto Dark Order on the outside of the ring.

Silver hits a big avalanche slam. He goes for the cover, but Darby’s foot is in the ropes. Silver goes for the Powerbomb. Darby counters into a Code Red. Darby gets the win. After the match, Sting and Darby show respect to John Silver.

Matt Hardy jumps the barricade and drags Allin out of the ring. The Dark Order and Hardy’s crew all battle. Allin hits a dive on Hardy. The show goes off the air.

Another good show from AEW this week. It was far from one of the better ones, but it was still the best wrestling show I’ve watched this week.

9:28 – Nyla Rose and Tay Conti

Rose and Conti are having a rematch from the women’s eliminator tournament. The Dark Order comes out with Tay. Vickie Guerrero is out with Rose.

Tay Conti stepped up big time in this one. Tay Conti hits the DD-Tay. She spikes Rose for the win. That has to be the biggest win for her so far.

Nyla Rose just has been passed by so many of the women in AEW.  Oh lord, her comes Hikaru Shida. Please don’t do Rose and Shida again.

Thank Goodness. Here comes The Bunny Allie. She whacks Shida with the kendo stick. Hardy says Bunny won’t be overlooked anymore.

9:26 – Kingston and Moxley

Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley address the attack on Kingston last week. Kingston is his usual bad-a** self. His leg is broken from the attack.

Moxley goes into serious psycho mode and promise to make The Good Brothers pay for what they did. He’s so good when he’s in that mode.

I’m not sure how long it will be before the match takes place, but it’s going to be incredible when it does.

8:57 – Trios Match

The Young Bucks and Brandon Cutler are wrestling The Lucha Brothers and Laredo Kid. I don’t care how many times the Lucha Bros and The Young Bucks are against each other, it’s still fun to watch. Laredo Kid is amazing as well.

Brandon Cutler is destined to take the pin in this one. JR says Fenix is unworldly. You can say that about all the guys in this one.  Just imagine a high-flying move followed by a superkick and that’s what this match was. Each moment was better than the last.

Oh my god. They’ve killed Rey Fenix. Fenix took an assisted Indy Taker and a DDT on the apron. He sells these like no one else. Meanwhile, Laredo Kid hits a Spanish Fly and gets the win over Brandon Cutler.

After the match, Kenny Omega comes down to the ring and attacks Laredo Kid. He beats him up.

He grabs a mic and addresses The Young Bucks. He talks about 3 years ago when this all started. He chose friends over WWE and NJPW. He says he chose The Young Bucks. He chose his friends and they just leave him.

Omega says he chose them, but they never chose him back. He’s giving them one more chance to join him. He says throw it up and give him the two sweet. He says it’s now or never. It’s their last chance and they walk off.

While his back is turned, The Lucha Bros sneak back in. They give Omega a double superkick. They kick the mic into his face. He’s bleeding from the mouth. They follow that up with a Foot Stomp and Package Piledriver.

If this doesn’t result in Hangman Page joining The Young Bucks to battle Omega and The Good Brother, then I’ll be disappointed.

8:43 –  The Pinnacle debuts:

The Pinnacle debuts in a six-man tag tonight. FTR and Spears defeat The Varsity Blonds and Dante Martin. The Pinnacle has a new video package and theme.

It gives a lot of horseman vibes. Spears wins this one with a Death Valley Driver.

After the match, Dax and Cash cut a promo on Santana and Ortiz. Then MJF calls out Jericho and makes a few fat jokes. Next week, MJF has a surprise for the rest of his crew.

Up next, it was QT Marshall with a promo. He talks about how he’s done more work than Cody in AEW. He’s frustrated because he’s only thought of as Cody’s friend. This gets a chant from the crowd.

QT wants to have an exhibition match with Cody next week. Cody accepts the exhibition match with Arn Anderson as the ref.

8:34 – Christian Cage:

Christian Cage is backstage talking to the Varsity Blonds and Dante Martin. Frankie Kazarian walks up. He wants to know when he starts actually working.

Cage then says it starts next week. He challenges Kaz to a match. Kaz accepts and tells him to come to Elevation and watch his match on Monday.

8:30 – Dr. Baker, DMD:

After getting the post-show video package from last week, Tony Schiavone interviews Britt Baker. She is upset about not getting a better reaction after her performance last week. She calls out the fans and Mick Foley.

She then turns her attention on Tony Khan. She says he just keeps looking for legends when she’s the legend he needs.

Britt Baker may very well be the best female promo in the business. I’m struggling to think of one better. She’s really, really good.

8:18 – Hangman Page in action:

Hangman Page is taking on Cezar Bononi who has Ryan Nemeth ringside. That was quick. Hangman Page hit the Buckshot Lariat for the win.

After the match, Lance Archer cuts a promo and he plans to take out Sting.

8:00 pm – Kenny Omega vs. Matt Sydal:

Kenny Omega is here to open AEW: Dynamite. He has the broom ladies back for this one. He gets an incredible introduction by Justin Roberts.

If Sydal wins, he gets a future world title shot. They haven’t disclosed when that will happen.

It would be a shocker if he won. However, we could always see some kind of interference in the match tonight. Of course, AEW isn’t like another company and doesn’t like for its champions to lose.

This match has been a lot slower-paced and more hard-hitting than I expected. Sydal takes an impressive bump off the top rope almost immediately after I typed that.

Omega hits a V-trigger. Sydal with a Poison-Rana. The action is picking up now.

Sydal countered a One-Winged Angel into a victory roll. Near fall. V-Trigger. One-Winged Angel. Kenny Omega wins.
