The announcement of the new deal between Warner Bros Discovery and AEW is ready to be made according to a new report.
In early September, it was reported that AEW and WBD had signed a new media rights deal with a “pay-per-view component” also being part of the arrangement on HBO Max.
That report followed Tony Khan making a statement at the AEW Collision & Rampage tapings at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL on September 6, 2024, about the future of the product on TBS and TNT.
It now looks like AEW and WBD could be set to make an official announcement of the deal according to Dave Meltzer.
Addressing the potential timing of the announcement in the F4W Online Daily Update, Meltzer stated that it could come on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite fifth anniversary show:
“An announcement is just about ready for the new WBD and AEW media rights deal.
“I think the announcement will only mention a deal, the stations but not necessarily everything that the deal entails. But as we’ve reported weeks ago, the deal has been completed.
“It’s possible it’ll be Wednesday in conjunction with the fifth anniversary.”
The October 2 2024 episode of AEW Dynamite marks the fifth anniversary of the show with Bryan Danielson vs Kazuchika Okada being added to the line-up.
The show will also see Serena Deeb face Britt Baker and Juice Robinson taking on Hangman Adam Page.
Not only will the AEW World Championship and Continental Championship be on the line but Will Ospreay will also defend the AEW International Championship against Ricochet.
