Creative plans for AEW Dynasty 2025 that were scrapped due to injury have now been revealed courtesy of a new report.
The beginning moments of Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite (April 2) saw Excalibur announced that ‘Switchblade’ Jay White had been pulled from this year’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament due to injury, with a backstage attack by The Death Riders before the show began cited as the cause.
Reports shortly afterwards revealed that the injury was legitimate, with the attack angle being designed in order for the company to address his absence on air.
White would then appear on Saturday’s episode of Collision (April 5) for a backstage interview with Lexi Nair, who stated that White had suffered a broken hand.
As a result of the injury AEW announced that White was going to be replaced in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament by the company’s newest star – Kevin Knight – who White had previously defeated on the March 29 episode of AEW Collision.
In a new report published prior to AEW Dynasty (April 6), Fightful Select revealed that it was in this match with Knight that White suffered his injury, something that has since altered the company’s plans for the pay-per-view.
According to the report, the working plan for Dynasty was to have White take on Will Ospreay in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
However, now it is Knight who is being inserted into Switchblade’s plans in his absence.
The result of the planned match between White and Ospreay, much like all plans related to the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament are reportedly being kept pretty quiet within AEW, with “pitches still being made from talent and internally in recent weeks”.
