Former AEW Star Didn’t Think WWE Offer Was Real WWE/AEW

Ethan Page has opened up about the offer he initially received from WWE revealing he didn’t think it was real.

After leaving AEW, Page made his WWE debut on May 28, 2024, appearing in NXT and going on to win the NXT Championship at the July 7 Heatwave.

In an interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the former AEW star opened up about a phone call with WWE, saying:

“Maybe I’m over-exaggerating, but I booked up close to 70, 60 (indie) shows for the remainder of 2024, and I did a great wrestling show in Winnipeg, and on my layover from Winnipeg to Detroit – because I was landing in Detroit to drive for Revolver Wrestling in Dayton, Ohio – I got a phone call, a number that I didn’t have in my phone.

“And they were like, ‘Hi, is this Ethan Page? This is so and so from the WWE, we’d like to offer you a contract, this long, this amount’.

“And I’m just like, ‘This is not real’, and I just go ‘Yeah honestly that sounds fantastic’. They hung up on me.”

It would take a second call from WWE for Page to be convinced he had secured a deal, going on to say:

“My phone rings instantly, ‘Hey this is (a different) so and so from WWE’, and I was like, ‘Wait, that phone call I just got was real?’ ‘Yeah, and you agreed to everything, so we would like to email it to you, have it signed…’

“So now I’m calling my wife, ‘I think the WWE just offered me a job, I think I’m gonna work for the WWE’.”

Page also stated that the decision to join WWE was a “validating” one, opening up about the vision he shared with Shawn Michaels.

Michaels had previously discussed the “untapped potential” he saw in Page before he signed with WWE.
