An update has emerged on the current roles of AEW EVPs, following a report that they have lost a lot of creative power recently.
As per Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net, the roles of the EVPs have drastically changed since AEW’s inception, as “creative is absolutely Tony Khan’s prerogative now”.
As per Dave Meltzer on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, the roles of the AEW higher-ups haven’t changed since the end of 2019. Since then, Khan has reportedly taken more control of booking and creative decisions, but nobody has lost power in that department, according to Meltzer.
The report also noted that top AEW names are allowed creative input in their matches, angles and promos. As the main booker, Khan reportedly decides the results of matches, while the performers have the creative input to ‘fill in the details’.
Using the Bryan Danielson vs Nick Jackson match from Friday’s AEW Rampage as an example, Meltzer stated that Danielson and Jackson were able to to what they wanted to within the bout.
