AEW has filed to trademark the name of a new tag team that has already drawn criticism from some quarters of the independent wrestling scene.
On the December 21 episode of AEW: Dark, Tony Schiavone announced that Serpentico, Angelico and Luther would now be known as the S.A.P.
S.A.P, it would transpire, is short for Spanish Announce Project – a fusion of the fact that Angelico and Serpentico are on AEW’s Spanish announce team, and that Serpentico & Luther were already a tag team called Chaos Project.
The USPTO website reports show that AEW has filed to trademark the following terms relating to the group:
SPANISH ANNOUNCE PROJECT
SPANISH ANNOUNCE POSITION
SAP
All three trademarks were filed with the following description:

All three trademarks cover the primary US classes of:

101: Advertising and Business
107: Education and Entertainment
The primary international class is listed as:

The choice of name recently came under fire from the well-established tag team, the S.A.T. (also known as Spanish Announce Team).
The Spanish Announce Team have been active since 2000.
S.A.T. member Jose Maximo took to Twitter to address the issue going as far as referring to Serpentico and Angelico as a “bunch of marks trying to benefit from our gimmick and name.”
