AEW files for a trademark on a new tag team name after last week saw another team have their future left in limbo on AEW Rampage.
Last week on AEW Rampage, a new tag team formed after stealing a name from another tag team and now, they’ve filed for trademark in real life.
After their win over the Varsity Blonds, Tony Nese and Josh Woods were in the ring with AEW attorney at law, Smart Mark Sterling.
It was then that the smarmy lawyer informed Griff Garrison and Brian Pillman Jr. that his clients had actually trademarked the name “Varsity Athletes” and therefore, the Varsity Blonds could never use their name again.
Now, the real AEW attorneys have acted in real life, filing a trademark for the moniker, “Varsity Athletes”.
According to the filing:
“Mark For: VARSITY ATHLETES™ trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a a group or individual wrestlers; Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a a group or individual wrestlers.”
The trademark application remains pending at this time, just like the future of the Varsity Blonds.
We’ll have to tune into AEW Dynamite on Wednesday at 8pm EST on TBS to find out if there are any further developments!
