The real reason why AEW hasn’t announced the venue for Forbidden Door 2025 has potentially been revealed, with WWE announcing their own shows in the region.
While next year’s Forbidden Door event has been advertised for August 24, 2025 in London, an official venue hasn’t yet been confirmed for the event.
WWE has now announced its own European tour set to take place ahead of WrestleMania 41, with episodes of Raw and SmackDown set to emanate from London’s 02 arena.
Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it is “most likely” that WWE having shows booked at the O2 Arena is preventing AEW from announcing this arena as a location, or putting tickets on sale.
Noting that the expectation is that Forbidden Door will take place at the O2 Arena, Meltzer wrote the following:
WWE will be doing its most extensive European tour in years from 3/14 to 3/31, including six television taping. The tapings will be 3/14 Smackdown in Barcelona, Spain, 3/17 Raw in Brussels, Belgium, 3/21 Smackdown in Bologna, Italy, 3/24 Raw in Glasgow, Scotland, 3/28 Smackdown in London and 3/31 Smackdown in London, both at the O2 Arena.
The expectation has been that AEW is running Forbidden Door at the O2 Arena next year in August, but haven’t been able to announce the arena. Most likely this is the reason and thus AEW won’t be able to announce the arena or put tickets on sale until sometime after the end of March, depending on what the specifics were for the WWE deal
AEW notably visited the UK for All In London in August, which emanated from Wembley Stadium.
