It has been revealed that Cody will be challenging Chris Jericho for the AEW World Championship on November 9th at AEW Full Gear.
The match was made taking into account that Cody has a very impressive singles record in AEW, winning two out of his three one-on-one matches so far for the new promotion.
However, Cody has revealed that the match could potentially be changed by the time the pay-per-view rolls around.
Speaking on the latest Road to TNT episode, Cody revealed that because he and Jericho still have matches booked between now and Full Gear, the championship match could certainly be altered:
“I’m not going on to Full Gear and Baltimore if I lose to Sammy Guevara. You know, classic ‘card is subject to change’ situation. If I take a loss to Sammy Guevara that changes the title match. If Chris Jericho takes a loss in Philadelphia, that changes the title match.”
While this specific championship match might not change, the prospect of title bouts being altered because of win/loss records is certainly something that would set AEW apart from WWE and make the new promotion feel more sports-like.
