Scrapped Plans For AEW PPV Title Match Revealed AEW

AEW Full Gear in November 2024 saw Private Party victorious against three other teams, however a different combination was originally planned.

The November 23 PPV saw the final of the AEW World Tag Team Championship Full Gear Four-Way Contender Series.

At the show, Private Party took on The Outrunners, Kings of the Black Throne and The Acclaimed.

In the run-up to the PPV, The Outrunners beat Top Flight, Kingst of the Black Throne defeated FTR and The Acclaimed took the win over La Faccion Ingobernable.

There were other plans in place, however, for the final four teams according to Dax Harwood of FTR.

Speaking to WrestleZone, Harwood revealed that FTR was supposed to be in the final until he approached Tony Khan.

Addressing the belief that FTR “latch on” to others in AEW, Harwood stated:

“I was telling you there are some people online who like to say that we latch on right? One of the things, people said, we latched onto The Outrunners because of their popularity.

“I would beg anybody to ask The Outrunners what they thought of us and how they felt we helped them. Never once….there’s a lot that happens behind the scenes.”

Harwood would then reveal how he had convinced Khan to put Outrunners into the final, saying:

“You know what? I’ll say it. For example, at the last pay-per-view, the four-way tag team title match, FTR was supposed to be in one of those spots.

“I went to Tony and said, ‘Hey man, these guys have worked their ass off. They deserve that spot. Take us out and put them in.’ And he did. He agreed with me.”

The January 1 episode of AEW Dynamite saw the return of Adam Copeland, now named Cope, teaming with FTR.

Going by the name Rated FTR, the team defeated Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley & Wheeler Yuta) in Cope’s first match since May 2024.
