An AEW star has confirmed that he’s now set to have surgery as a result of an injury he sustained in February.

Buddy Matthews hasn’t wrestled since unsuccessfully challenging for Kazuchika Okada’s Continental Championship at AEW Grand Slam Australia on February 15.

With Matthews suffering an ankle injury on this show, the former AEW Trios Champion revealed in June that his ankle wasn’t recovering as well as he thought it would, and that it had “no mobility.”

In a new update, Buddy Matthews has revealed that he’s having surgery to fix his ankle.

Sharing a photo to his Instagram Story of himself in a hospital bed next to his wife, WWE star Rhea Ripley, Matthews wrote:

Update: heading into surgery to repair my ankle.

Matthews previously noted that he originally expected to be back in the ring in April.

A timeline for his return is currently unclear.

Another AEW star currently sidelined with an injury is Eddie Kingston, who has revealed that he considered retirement during his time away.

We wish Buddy Matthews a safe and healthy recovery.
