AEW’s Jake Roberts Credits WWE Hall Of Famer For Saving His Life

AEW’s Jake Roberts has opened up about how WWE Hall of Famer Diamond Dallas Page saved his life after years of addiction.

Roberts is currently signed with AEW, revealing that he’s been sober for twelve years in comments made in early October 2024.

With Roberts’ history with alcohol and other substances well documented in the past, he spent time in a rehabilitation clinic in 2007, paid for by WWE.

In 2012, however, he would move in with Diamond Dallas Page and has since been sober thanks to his fellow wrestling star’s work.

During a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Roberts spoke about his sobriety, saying:

“The smell of alcohol turns my stomach. I can walk through an airport blindfolded and tell you where the bars are at. Because of the smell. That’s my stomach now and I’m glad.”

Roberts would also reveal that it wasn’t easy overcoming his battle with addiction, stating it took:

“A lot of damn work, it took a lot of work. It took a lot of patience and some good friends.”

Speaking about how DDP changed Roberts’ life, he was emphatic in his response, saying:

“No doubt in my mind. I’d have been dead several years ago. That’s where I was going.”

Roberts made his on-screen return in AEW on the October 8 episode of Dynamite as the manager of La Faccion Ingobernable.

He acquired the services of Rush, Dralistico and The Beast Mortos from Don Callis who, subsequently, acquired Lance Archer.

Both Roberts and DDP are in the WWE Hall of Fame, being inducted in 2014 and 2017 respectively.
