Ex-WWE Name Ruled Out Of Joining AEW

An ex-WWE name has been ruled out of joining AEW despite the benefits that their involvement would bring to the company.

With AEW Collision set to debut on June 17, Jim Ross was recently asked about the commentary team for the Saturday night show.

Addressing the question on a virtual signing with K & S WrestleFest, Ross stated that he didn’t know who would be on commentary duties for the show.

He was then asked about whether former WWE commentator Mauro Ranallo could join AEW, with the Hall of Famer replying:

“He’s a friend of mine (J.R. said about Mauro Ranallo)… No (I don’t see him coming to AEW).

“He has mental health issues.

“He can help any organization, Mauro. Mauro Ranallo is that good. But he’s not a great traveller and that’s not knocking Mauro.

“It’s just he has issues that are more important than who’s doing Dynamite next week.”

In July 2022, it was reported that AEW had held talks with Ranallo’s management about joining the company “some time back”.

Recently, WWE’s Vic Joseph had spoken about comparisons to Mauro Ranallo in his role as an NXT commentator.

Mauro Ranallo joined WWE in December 2015 and remained with the company until his departure in August 2020.

A familiar voice on WWE SmackDown commentary until their mutual parting of ways, he is perhaps better remembered as the voice of NXT from June 2017 following his return to the company to which he was still under contract.

Previously, it had been reported that Ranallo had suffered bullying at the hands of John “Bradshaw” Layfield, although the WWE Hall of Famer would claim that there was no malicious intent towards Ranallo.
