An update has emerged on AEW star and WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross after he underwent brain surgery on August 12.
As previously reported, Jim Ross was scheduled to go into surgery today, with the AEW star expecting a short stay in the hospital after the procedure.
Ahead of the surgery, Ross provided an insight into the procedure in a post on Twitter, sharing:
“Thanks for the outpouring of support regarding my upcoming brain surgery.
“A hole will be drilled in my skull, and a small tube will be inserted to reach into my stomach to better manage/drain excess brain fluid.
“I’m optimistic. Thanks to all. 🤠”
Jim Ross’ procedure was called a shunt surgery, which he spoke about in more detail here.
His Grilling JR co-host Conrad Thompson has now confirmed that the surgery was successful, tweeting:
“Happy to report that our pal @JRsBBQ had a successful procedure this morning!
“I heard from his lovely daughter this morning that everything went well and good ole JR is expected to be back home by Friday! 🤠
“Please keep JR in your prayers as we hope for a speedy recovery!”
Ross’ AEW contract expires this month, with the legendary star addressing his potential departure, concluding, “My career as a wrestling broadcaster has been nothing but wonderful.”
Following his departure from WWE in March 2019, having chosen to not renew his contract, Ross would debut in AEW the following month, serving as a commentator and senior advisor.
Recent years have seen Ross used sparingly due to health issues, with the legendary commentator last seen at Double or Nothing in May of this year.
Ross recently spent an extended stay in hospital, revealing that he had received a “phone visit” from fellow WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin.
