A NJPW star has responded to a message from his mentor, AEW World Champion Jon Moxley, ahead of a confrontation at an upcoming event.
While Shota Umino has been seen as a protege of Jon Moxley’s since losing to Moxley at Dominion 2019, the duo have both achieved success during their time apart.
Moxley became AEW World Champion after brutalizing Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream, while Shota Umino earned a shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, with ‘Shooter’ set to challenge for the gold at Wrestle Kingdom 19 on January 4.
Moxley confronted Umino via video following Umino’s tag-team match at Fighting Spirit Unleashed.
The AEW World Champion hinted that he will be sending a member of the Blackpool Combat Club to fix Umino’s problem, noting that he will send an “emissary” to the Tokyo Dome.
Moxley noted:
“Shooter, my man, you have made a mistake, a grave mistake. You’ve travelled down a dark path, a dark way of thinking. I’m not mad, I’m just very disappointed.
“Let’s go back to our first principles – we don’t care what anybody thinks, we don’t care what anybody says. What are you reading, what are you listening to, what’s gotten inside your head?
“We’re gonna continue your education, and I will send an emissary to the Tokyo Dome to fix this problem you’re having. And we’ll continue moulding you into the champion that I know you can be.”

Umino sent a bold message back to Moxley, stating:
“Send somebody to the Tokyo Dome. Wheeler Yuta, Pac or Claudio Castagnoli, I don’t care.
“I’ll beat them at the Tokyo Dome, f**k it, I don’t care. I want to fight you. F**k you, Jon Moxley!”

NJPW has since clarified that this “emissary” will be sent to face Umino at the January 5 Wrestle Dynasty crossover show.
