AEW’s Jon Moxley Announced For ‘Lumberjack Deathmatch’ AEW

AEW star and IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley’s next title defence will be contested under Lumberjack Deathmatch rules.

With EVIL set to challenge for Moxley’s gold at NJPW Dominion, Jon Moxley’s upcoming challenger recently pitched for this match to be given a Lumberjack stipulation.

NJPW has now provided an official update on this upcoming match, sharing a graphic which advertises the bout as an “IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Lumberjack Deathmatch”.

Prior to this stipulation being made official, EVIL noted the following in an interview with NJPW:

“Since this low life mud show ‘wrestler’ wants to run away from any kind of a fair fight under IWGP rules then I have something for him. June 9 in Osaka Jo Hall, a Lumberjack Match for the title. That way he has no escape.

“He can talk about gang warfare all he wants, but all he has in his gang of reprobates is that waste of space Umino, right. When he’s trapped in the ring with no way out around him, he’ll see his future is as bleak as that fake title he carries round.

“If he wants to bring his snot nosed brat with him he can, and we’ll make sure both understand what justice looks like. June 9 in Osaka Jo Hall, I’ll crush you in a Lumberjack Match. Don’t you forget it!”

Lumberjack matches involve the ring being surrounded by a group of wrestlers, which are referred to as the “lumberjacks”.

Moxley won the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship from Tetsuya Naito at the April 12 Windy City Riot event.

He recently defeated both Konosuke Takeshita and Rocky Romero in championship eliminator matches in bouts for AEW, denying them both of matches for his title.
